NT: Djerrkura fears tribal dispute could end career

Former ATSIC chairman GATJIL DJERRKURA fears his bid to join the Northern Territory
government is being jeopardised by a bitter tribal wrangle in Arnhem Land.

Mr DJERRKURA has nominated for Country Liberal Party (CLP) pre-selection to take on
Deputy Labor Leader SID STIRLING in the seat of Nhulunbuy.

The potential tussle has become more acrimonious since Mr DJERRKURA'S ex-wife JENNY
DJERRKURA moved in with Mr STIRLING.

But Mr DJERRKURA says his political aspirations are under threat by the Gove branch of the CLP.

He says the branch has given him the cold-shoulder since he announced his interest
in the seat in September.

While the party's central council could override the branch, he's not prepared to run
as the CLP candidate without the branch's support.
